Washington, D.C. – Today, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-CA) released the following statement in response to President Barack Obama's State of the Union address:
"Tonight the President clearly laid out how Democrats are committed to rebuilding America's middle class, but our recovery will continue to drag if the ongoing housing crisis is not addressed aggressively. With a foreclosure rate twice the national average, Californians know we need a plan that brings relief to homeowners and neighborhoods so that our economy can fully recover.
For families who have seen tuition rates skyrocket 21 percent in California over the past year, we also need a strong commitment to make higher education affordable as part of the American Dream. For Silicon Valley this is especially important to keep our economy entrepreneurial, innovative and competitive in the global marketplace in the years to come."
