Our District
18th Congressional District of California
Following the 2020 Census, the non-partisan California Citizens Redistricting Commission dramatically changed the Congressional Districts in the South Bay and Central Coast. The Commission combined part of Santa Clara County with parts of Monterey and Santa Cruz counties and all of San Benito County to form the new 18th Congressional District (CA-18).
Zoe sees great opportunities in representing this newly-redrawn district, specifically in connecting the Silicon Valley-based technology prowess with the area’s robust agricultural sector.
All four counties boast beautiful scenery and weather, including lush valleys surrounded by mountains and hillsides. South of San Francisco, west of Fresno, and north of Santa Barbara, the area is home to family-friendly parks, recreational areas, playgrounds, sports teams, museums, institutions of higher education, and farmland.
The counties were all founded at or within 25 years of California statehood in 1850, and include large cities, like San Jose, along with small towns and villages. The area attracts diverse communities rich in culture. CA-18 is the original home of the farmworkers’ movement, led by San Jose resident Cesar Chavez, where immigrant communities have been shaping the district for the better and making it in an inclusive place to live and work.
Monterey County is located on the Central Coast of California. It is the third-largest agricultural county in the state with the fertile Salinas Valley stretching throughout most of the county. The vibrant ag sector includes leafy greens, vegetables, and wine.
San Benito County was formed from parts of Monterey County in 1874. It has a rural feel while offering amenities and activities in the county’s two incorporated cities and three unincorporated towns. Pinnacles National Park, California’s newest national park, has views and wildlife that you won’t want to miss. The county also boasts a rich ag sector.
Santa Clara County is often referred to as “Silicon Valley” because it is considered to be the heart of American innovation and is home to thousands of technology companies. The county is a major employment center for the Northern California region, spanning the cities of San Jose, Morgan Hill, and Gilroy.
Santa Cruz County is anchored by agriculture and technology, and its city of Watsonville is part of CA-18. The Watsonville slough system is one of the few remaining wetlands of its kind in the California coastal region.
