WASHINGTON, D.C.-- Today, Bay Area members of Congress celebrated an $8,807,888 grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to support local public transportation as the region prepares to host matches during the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The investment will ensure local transit agencies can meet increased demand during one of the largest global sporting events ever hosted in the United States.

Swalwell. “Beyond the excitement of the matches, this will be a huge boost for our economy, bringing visitors from around the world who will be supporting local businesses, hotels, and restaurants. It’s a great moment to showcase the best that California has to offer.”

“The San Francisco Bay Area is proudly sought after as a premier destination for world-class sporting events, and it’s incredibly exciting that we’ll be hosting World Cup matches this summer and welcoming soccer fans from around the globe. Public infrastructure is absolutely essential to coordinating successful events, and this critical federal funding will have lasting benefits while helping to ensure our transportation systems are prepared to keep visitors and residents moving safely and efficiently,” said Rep. Mullin.
