Lofgren Announces $500+ Million in Federal Recovery Funding for Santa Clara County, San Jose & Gilroy

SAN JOSE, CA – Today, U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) announced that the U.S. Department of the Treasury will provide $374,462,651 to Santa Clara County, $212,280,152 to the City of San Jose, and $10,964,521 to the City of Gilroy. This COVID-19 recover funding will help protect government services from budget cuts, provide aid to workers and businesses, and support COVID-19 vaccination and prevention efforts.

This funding was included in the American Rescue Plan (ARP), which Rep. Lofgren voted in favor of and the House passed at the end of February. The ARP was signed into law by President Biden in March. In total, more than $7.6 billion will be provided in ARP fiscal relief to counties in California, $7 billion for medium and large cities in California, $1.2 billion for California cities with populations below 50,000, and $27 billion for the State of California.

"Californians rely on our teachers, first responders, public health officials, and other essential workers employed by state, county, and local governments. During the pandemic, these workers stepped up and kept our communities afloat. We owe them a debt of gratitude, and the least we can do is prevent them from losing their jobs," said Rep. Lofgren. "Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, federal funding is coming in to prevent cuts to important services and allow state and local governments to effectively contribute to a strong recovery."

The ARP's $350 billion in State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds will be provided directly to state, local, territorial, and Tribal governments. Recipient governments will have broad flexibility in determining how best to use the funds to meet the needs of the communities they serve. Exact funding amounts for smaller California cities, including the City of Morgan Hill, are expected to be available in the coming days.
