Lofgren Celebrates $10 Million in Federal Infrastructure Funding to Enhance Accessibility of Mineta San José International Airport

July 7, 2022

SAN JOSE, CA – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) announced that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will provide Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) with a total of $10 million to make the airport's terminals more accessible for those with disabilities.

This funding was included in the bipartisan infrastructure package, which Rep. Lofgren voted for in November 2021.

"Americans with disabilities should be able to travel and access airport amenities fully and equally," said Rep. Lofgren. "I supported the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act to upgrade our infrastructure in California and nationwide. These funds will help improve Mineta San José International Airport and ensure it is accessible to everyone in our community."

"This grant will support improvements that are core to our mission of making travel through Mineta San José International Airport easy and efficient for all travelers," said SJC Director of Aviation John Aitken. "We remain grateful to Congresswoman Lofgren for her advocacy on behalf of our region, and her strong support of Silicon Valley's Airport."

This grant is part of the $5 billion Airport Terminals Program established by the bipartisan infrastructure legislation. The funding will help address 1760 accessibility issues identified in a 2018 accessibility study. In total, the bipartisan infrastructure legislation provided $25 billion to airports over five years, of which $1.5 billion is expected to go to California airports.

This funding follows prior federal funding for Mineta San José International Airport. In December, Lofgren announced $15.8 million in bipartisan infrastructure legislation funding to improve infrastructure at the airport. In June 2021, Lofgren announced $55.5 million in COVID-19 relief funding for the airport. In March 2021, Lofgren announced $1.6 million for the airport and its concessions thanks to the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriation Act. In April 2020, Lofgren announced more than $65.6 million in funding from the CARES Act.
