Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) today issued the following statement hailing the passage of the Vietnam Human Rights Act (H.R 1587):
“My district, encompassing most of San Jose, is home to one of the largest Vietnamese- American communities in the Country. I am pleased that the passage of the Vietnam Human Rights Act will give us the tools we need to not only send the right message to Vietnam, but also to take action against Vietnam for their continuous human rights violations.
“We cannot allow Vietnam to continue to violate human rights and expect further normalization of the relationship between Vietnam and the United States. The passage of H.R. 1587 will ensure that we are working toward that goal.
"Last week, the San Jose/Silicon Valley branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) joined in supporting human rights in Vietnam, and I commend them for their efforts."
