Lofgren & Local Leaders Celebrate $1.8 million in Federal Funding for Education, Training & Prep Programs in CA-19
SAN JOSE, CA – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) presented checks appropriated by Congress for three community projects totaling $1,800,000 for local education, training, and prep programs.
"I am proud to live in and represent Santa Clara County in Congress because of the organizations, institutions, and people who care about constantly making improvements for the betterment of future generations. These three projects will help ensure resources are available for children and adults who aim to better themselves and their families. The programs will fill gaps to address inequities and advance early childhood educational opportunities through to professional development trainings," said Lofgren.
The three organizations below, listed in alphabetical order, accepted their allotments of federal funding at an event at the Center for Employment Training (CET).

"CET would like to personally thank Representative Zoe Lofgren for her support in modernizing our learning labs. The pandemic has significantly impacted education, and Representative Lofgren's support will create a more immersive and engaging learning environment for our students. During training, students will now be able to familiarize themselves with modern, state-of-the-art equipment used in our hands-on skills training labs to achieve the marketable skills needed in today's competitive labor market. Thank you again for your trust, commitment, and investment in CET and our community," said Hermelinda Sapien, President and CEO of CET.

Lofgren presented a $1,200,000 for the YMCA of Silicon Valley's afterschool and early learning readiness programs.
"Drug use and juvenile crime peaks from 3 – 6 p.m., when many parents are still at work and 1 in 5 kids are unsupervised. With this critical funding support from Congresswoman Lofgren, the YMCA of Silicon Valley can mitigate this risk throughout the City of San Jose and CA District 19. With this generous support, the Y will provide low or no-cost after school programming that includes constructive, supervised activity, anti-substance abuse/anti-tobacco curriculum, and vital family engagement and support. We are proud to partner with Congresswoman Lofgren to undertake this work," said Jim Hori, President and CEO of the YMCA of Silicon Valley.
Background
The funding comes from Lofgren-requested Community Project Funding included in Fiscal Year 2022 government funding legislation signed into law in March 2022. In total, Lofgren secured $7,510,000 for projects in the 19th Congressional District. Lofgren celebrated four of the projects on October 11, 2022 and three more on October 17, 2022.
