SAN JOSE, CA – U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) issued the below statement following the passing of AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka:

“Richard Trumka was a tireless champion for hardworking men and women across the country, and I am saddened by his passing. From his early days at the United Mine Workers of America to his decades-long leadership of the AFL-CIO, Mr. Trumka dedicated his life to the labor movement and the right to organize.

“Whether he was working to include labor protections in the USMCA, standing on the picket lines fighting for $15, or protecting collective bargaining rights with the PRO Act, Mr. Trumka was a fierce warrior for American workers. His voice will resonate for years to come, and my family joins his loved ones, along with the men and women of the AFL-CIO, in mourning his loss today.”
