Rep. Lofgren Announces $2.3M+ for Transportation Study in Watsonville

June 21, 2024

SALINAS, CA – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-18) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) will distribute $2,355,319 to the City of Watsonville to examine truck routes and the harmful community impacts of truck traffic in the downtown and nearby residential areas.

“Truck routes throughout our region and state allow for goods to be transported, but the large vehicles can also create undue burdens for the communities they drive through. I am pleased to announce this funding that will look at how Watsonville can strike the proper balance between meeting the needs of community members – who want reduced emissions and traffic near schools, businesses, and neighborhoods – and the greater regional economy,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren.

This funding is part of the DOT’s Neighborhood Access and Equity Grant Program (NAE), which supports neighborhood equity, safety, affordable transportation access, and mitigation of environmental impacts.

This DOT funding was provided by the Inflation Reduction Act, which Rep. Lofgren voted in favor of.
