Rep. Lofgren Announces $3.2M+ in Federal Funding for Job Creation & Tree Planting in Watsonville
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will distribute $3,275,191 to Watsonville Wetlands Watch to increase tree plantings, develop a tree inventory, and provide job pathways to residents in the Pajaro Valley.
“We must protect our environment for the sake of future generations. This federal funding will sustain ecosystems, strengthen the local economy, and increase green space in schools, parks, and neighborhoods in the Pajaro Valley. That’s why I’m glad to have voted for the Inflation Reduction Act in the Democratic majority which made robust investments in environmental preservation and combatting climate change,” said Rep. Lofgren.
This funding comes from the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, which supports tree-planting and forest planning and management. The Inflation Reduction Act, which Rep. Lofgren voted in favor of, provided the Urban and Community Forestry funding that is being delivered around the country.
