WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representatives Zoe Lofgren (CA-18) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-19) announced that the County of Monterey will receive $11,224,830 from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support early childhood readiness programs.
“There are few things more important than guaranteeing children receive a first-class education and have opportunities that create a solid learning foundation,” said Reps. Lofgren and Panetta. “The Head Start Program plays an important role in early childhood learning and development. It helps provide the necessary tools for children to thrive in school and in life. We are committed to boosting federal investments for early childhood learning programs that help close achievement gaps and set students up for success.”
Head Start is a federally-funded program for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers from low-income families. The Monterey County Office of Education became a Head Start Grantee in 1972 and currently administers the county’s programs.
This funding, provided specifically by HHS’ Administration for Children and Families, comes from the FY23 consolidated appropriations package that Reps. Lofgren and Panetta voted in favor of.
