Statement of Congresswoman Lofgren on the President's Budget

Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) issued the following statement today in reaction to the release of the Bush administration’s 2005 budget:

“Once again the President’s budget reflects the priorities of this Administration to spend now and worry later. This budget will drive this country further into fiscal disarray and leave enormous deficits for our children and grandchildren. It is reckless to provide $1 trillion over the next 10 years for additional tax cuts for the wealthy while creating a record $521 billion deficit.

“As families in San Jose and across the country continue to struggle with financial security and unemployment, the Bush budget ignores the daily challenges they face. It fails in the areas where we need help the most, such as job creation, investing in education, lowering the cost of health care, supporting our veterans and funding for small businesses.

“The Bush budget continues down the same road of reckless leadership and failed policies that focus only on the privileged few. My Democratic colleagues and I will continue to work hard for our needs here at home: creating jobs for the millions people who have been out of work, keeping the country secure, making health care affordable and accessible and providing a quality education for our children. We call on President Bush to join us.”
