Union Pacific Railroad’s recent operating schedule change in San Jose

Zoe has heard from several of her constituents about the noise resulting from Union Pacific Railroad's (UPRR) recent operating schedule change in the San Jose area and agrees that the disruption caused by UPRR's schedule change to San Jose residents is simply unacceptable.

Without quiet zones in the area, train operators are required to blow the train's horn as they approach crossings throughout the neighborhood to warn nearby pedestrians.

You may be interested to know that Zoe recently sent a letter to Mayor Liccardo, UPRR Chairman Lance Fritz, the San Jose City Council, and the Federal Railroad Administration, requesting that all parties work collaboratively to establish quiet zones in affected residential neighborhoods as soon as possible. You can read that letter here.

A resolution must be reached that does not compromise either San Jose residential safety or the ability to get a peaceful night sleep. Please know that Zoe will continue to monitor this situation closely and work closely with all parties involved end this significant source of consternation.
