Lofgren & Local Leaders Celebrate $1.1 Million in Federal Funding for King City

May 10, 2024

KING CITY, CA – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-18) presented checks appropriated by Congress for two community projects totaling $1,100,000 that will help create an electric vehicle charging station and Family Justice Center in King City. The funding comes from Lofgren-requested Community Project Funding included in Fiscal Year 2024 government funding legislation signed into law in March 2024. In total, Lofgren secured $50,095,535 for projects in the 18th Congressional District. She will present checks in Santa Clara County in the coming weeks and months.

King City Downtown Electric Vehicle Charging Station – $600,000

Lofgren presented a check for $600,000 for the project that will help create an electric vehicle charging station in downtown King City on a property located near the southeast corner of Broadway Street and 3rd Street.

“As we face the all-too-real effects of climate change, it is important to promote sustainable solutions that protect our planet. This project is helping lay an important foundation in our fight against climate change, and I commend Mayor LeBarre and local officials for identifying the opportunity to have this charging station,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren. “I will always advocate for funding that is good for CA-18 communities, the regional economy, and the environment for the sake of future generations.”

“King City is extremely grateful for Congresswoman Lofgren’s work to obtain this critical funding for our efforts to create a downtown parking lot dedicated for electric vehicle chargers. This project would not be possible without her. This funding is a key component of the City’s plan to become a leader in reducing greenhouse gas emissions by facilitating the conversion to zero emission vehicles and to improve our downtown to attract more visitors in order to support local businesses and job creation. We thank Congresswoman Lofgren for how supportive, engaged and proactive she has been for our city and greatly appreciate her helping us to improve the quality of life for all in our community,” said King City Mayor Mike LeBarre.

King City Family Justice Center – $500,000

Lofgren presented a check for $500,000 for the project that will help Monterey County establish a Family Justice Center in King City. Specifically, the requested funds will be used to improve the County’s current building or acquire additional buildings in King City to be able to continue to co-locate service providers and perform sexual assault and domestic violence medical examinations.

“The Family Justice Center will be an important resource for survivors of sexual and domestic violence to access the services and care they need,” said Rep. Zoe Lofgren. “I appreciate that Supervisor Lopez and others brought this project to my attention, especially because serving survivors of assault and abuse can often be overlooked. After trauma, community resources must be available and accessible, and providing federal funding for the development of this Center matters. I will continue to be on the lookout for projects like this that can use a federal boost in the future.”

“In the darkest hours of someone’s struggles hope is the light that they need, this investment will make certain that light shines a little brighter in Southern Monterey County, illuminating hope in the form of access,” said Monterey County Supervisor Chris Lopez.
