Rep. Lofgren Announces Nearly $16.8M for Wastewater Infrastructure in San Juan Bautista

May 16, 2024

WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren announced that the City of San Juan Bautista will receive $16,795,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) in a combination of grants and low-cost federal loans to improve wastewater infrastructure.

“Proper water infrastructure – that prevents contamination and allows for clean drinking water – is a basic need in communities. I applaud this federal funding that will protect our environment and ensure families in San Juan Bautista have access to cleaner and safer water resources,” said Rep. Lofgren.

The City of San Juan Bautista will receive a loan of $10,268,000 and a grant of $6,527,000.

The USDA funding comes from the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grants program, which supports rural clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage

This funding was provided by the FY22 and FY23 appropriations packages that Lofgren voted in favor of. Lofgren recently presented checks appropriated by Congress for two community projects totaling $1,919,504 that will improve wastewater treatment in Salinas and Watsonville, and secured $959,752 for the San Lucas Clean Drinking Water Project through Community Project Funding in Fiscal Year 2024.
