Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) issued the following statement on President Bush’s visit to Silicon Valley today:

“When President Bush came to Santa Clara County last spring, he told us that one million new jobs would be created by the year 2004. Now three years into the Bush presidency and months into 2004, California alone has lost 300,000 jobs since Bush took office with over one million unemployed statewide.

Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) today hailed passage of the United States Patent and Trademark Fee Modernization Act of 2003, which passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 379 to 28. The legislation makes improvements for the Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) by granting it permanent authority to collect and spend fees, which would limit future fee diversion to other government programs.

Washington, DC — Representatives Lofgren and Honda (D-San Jose) announced today that Santa Clara County Department of Public Health would receive over $2.6 million in HIV relief funding. The grants are designed to provide HIV/AIDS health care and support to those who have little to no health insurance.

Despite Republican Resistance, House Passes Extension

Washington, DC — U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) supported a bill today to extend federal unemployment benefits, which could bring much needed relief to millions of Americans and over three hundred thousand Californians, who will not otherwise receive additional aid. The amendment, offered by Rep. George Miller of California passed today in the U.S. House by a vote of 227-179.
