GILROY, CA – Today, Reps. Zoe Lofgren (CA-19) and Jimmy Panetta (CA-20), who jointly represent the City of Gilroy, issued the following statement in response to the tragic violence that occurred on July 28, on the closing day of the Gilroy Garlic Festival.

"The city of Gilroy, and our constituents, are now among a very sobering group of communities that have endured a mass shooting. It is heartbreaking what the families and loved ones of the victims, and those injured, face in the wake of this tragedy. Our condolences are with them.

Washington, DC – U.S. Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR), Andy Harris, M.D. (R-MD), Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), H. Morgan Griffith (R-VA), Debbie Dingell (D-MI), and Rob Bishop (R-UT) today introduced the Medical Marijuana Research Act of 2019. This bill addresses burdensome processes that currently impede legitimate medical research on marijuana. This bipartisan piece of legislation would amend the Controlled Substances Act to establish a new, separate registration process to facilitate research with marijuana for medical purposes.

Washington, D.C. –Today, the House Judiciary Committee voted 18-13 to report H.R. 3239, the Humanitarian Standards for Individuals in Customs and Border Protection Custody Act, to the full House for a vote. The legislation, authored by Representative Raul Ruiz, M.D. (D-CA), requires all individuals in Customs and Border Protection (CBP) custody to receive an initial medical screening and sets certain minimum standards of hygiene, nutrition, and shelter that CBP must meet.
