“Despite some perceptions, digital piracy is not a threat limited to the movie and music industries. Software developers lose money from theft rates exceeding eighty percent in some countries. Local and national economies lose jobs and tax revenues and lawful consumers confront higher prices. Faced with these realities, preventing digital piracy is a righteous goal.

Washington, DC‹ Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-16) today announced new legislation aimed at applying the same immigration requirements used by the U.S. military services to airport screeners.

The bill, titled The Military Standards for Airport Screeners Act, would seek to require that an individual who is eligible to serve in the U.S. Armed Forces must also be eligible to work as an airport screener.

Washington, DC‹The House Judiciary Committee approved on Wednesday Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren’s amendment to its Views and Estimates calling on the Department of Justice to adopt strong and flexible standards for child safety locks provided under Project ChildSafe. Project ChildSafe is a federal, state and local partnership aimed at providing child safety locks for every handgun in America.

CA‹ Thanks to efforts by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-CA), California Governor Gray Davis and to grass roots organizations, the Bush administration has finally agreed to a waiver that would use federal funds to expand California’s Healthy Families coverage to uninsured parents of children who enroll, or are enrolled, in the Healthy Families or Medi-Cal for Children up to 200 percent of the federal poverty level.
