Congresswoman Lofgren (D- San Jose) today offered the following statement in strong support of the Vietnam Human Rights Act:

Mr. Speaker, we need to pass the Vietnam Human Rights Act to send a message to Vietnam’s communist government. Vietnam cannot continue to violate human rights and expect further normalization of the relationship between Vietnam and the United States.

According to a recent Associated Press report, a couple was taken in restraints from a July 4th event featuring President Bush simply because they wore “anti-Bush” T-shirts. Although Nicole and Jeffrey Rank had tickets to the event, they were also cited for trespassing.

Fourth of July Festivities in San Jose

Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (D-San Jose) claimed a back-to-back win in the Campus Community Association’s annual Fourth of July Bake-Off Contest, where “Zoe’s 4th of July Almond Tart” took home first prize. Last year, Congresswoman Lofgren won the top prize with her homemade Pecan Pie. The pressure will be on for Zoe in 2005 for a three-peat.
